A Mother Daughter Transformative Experience
8 in 10 women experience symptoms of menopause. While symptoms can wax and wane, they are certainly REAL and sometimes destructive. Walking with my mom through her menopause journey was a blessing that sparked my curiosity and ended up working in this field. I am amazed by every woman’s transformation and self-empowerment in their menopause journey.
Here is my mom’s story.
Age 45, she started having light sleep on most nights. Occasionally, she’d also have 2 periods in one month. Her family suggested to her that she was at the start of perimenopause, but she refuted the suggestion because she thought that she was too young. Sleep never got better for her.
At age 52, she experienced lowered back pain and tingling sensation down her hips. After series of MRI and CT scans, her neurologist and physiotherapist were unable to determine the cause.
At age 54, she experienced about 4 months of dry throat, extreme thirst, peculiar bitter taste, palpitations, and breast pain. That year she also had her last period.
Inside, she was suffering. I noticed my mom was unsettled all the time. She was irritable, oversensitive, hyper-anxious, and easily overwhelmed. Still then, she did not want to burden me so she had declined my help. Like most menopausal women, she simply accepted every new and old discomfort in her body.
At age 56, she was post-menopause. Even though she never had hotflashes and nightsweats, she was frequented by heatstrokes on mild weather days. When the heatstrokes came on, she couldn’t do anything else for the rest of the day. That was when she realized she needed medical help.
She started with a few sessions of intravenous infusion of vitamins and minerals to help tame the heatstrokes and support cortisol and blood sugar balance. She noticed having more energy only in 3 weeks and was then receptive to taking herbal supplements to help with sleep and support her thyroid. To my surprise, I found that my mom was back to her normal self again. I felt that I got my best friend back! Most importantly, she was no longer nervous of going out in the sun to enjoy her favourite sport – golf. Now, she regularly gets adrenal support injections and acupuncture to keep her cortisol level low so that she sleeps well at night. Her lower back pain has gone away too!
I’m just so happy to see my mom having her health and happiness back so that she gets to enjoy travelling and exploring her new life in retirement!
